The Inspiration For My V-Neck Crochet Sweater Pattern
Hello friends! My name is Michelle Ferguson. I am the designer and creator of Two Brothers Blankets! I am so honored to be sharing the September Sweater crochet pattern here on the Make & Do Crew blog!
The September Sweater crochet pattern is your basic v-neck sweater. I don't know about you, but I just love my basic tops. I'm not much for frills and extras, so when designing I tend to stick with basic designs that use fun stitches for great texture.
The September Sweater is exactly that! I love the v-neckline on it and the ribbed trim. It adds just enough flare to make it trendy and stylish!

A Luxurious Hard-Working Yarn
I used Lion Brand Touch of Merino for this design. This yarn has become a new favorite of mine, since using it for this project! It is so soft! But since it is 90% acrylic it is also very sturdy. It is perfect for a top like the September sweater because it is lightweight and soft against the skin.
If you can't get your hands on this yarn, some good substitutes for this project would include Loops and Threads Joy DK or Yarn Bee Baby Bee Sweet Delight.
A V-neck Pullover Makes for Easy Construction
This project is a side by side workup. You will crochet two long panels and then fold them in half and sew them together to create the body of the sweater. Sleeves and trim are added at the end.
I've included a schematic to go alone with this pattern to help you visualize where to sew the panels together.
This pattern is rated Intermediate. You will need to know how to do the herringbone half double crochet stitch (written instructions within pattern below). You will also need to be able to sew your panels together to create the sweater.

Explanation: The September Sweater will be your new favorite basic sweater! This adorable v-neck uses just a few different crochet stitches to give it it's gorgeous look! This design is easily customizable in both width and length. The ribbing at the bottom of the sweater and the sleeves give it a nice simple touch!
This pattern is rated intermediate. Skill required including the herringbone half double crochet stitch and the ability to seam together crochet pieces.
Supplies:
• Lion Brand Touch of Merino (Weight: 3/light – 257 yards, 3.5 oz)
– Oxford Grey (#676-150) – 6 (7, 7, 8, 8, 10) balls
• US H/8 (5.00mm) crochet hook
• Yarn needle
• Scissors
• Measuring tape
Sizes/Measurements:
• XS: 28-30" bust
• S: 32-34" bust
• M: 36-38" bust
• L: 40-42" bust
• XL: 44-46" bust
• 2X: 48-50" bust
Gauge:
• 18 hhdc x 13 rows = 4"
Abbreviations and Glossary (US Terms):
st(s)- stitch(es)
ch(s)- chain(s)
sc- single crochet
hhdc- herringbone half double crochet – yarn over, insert into stitch, yarn over, pull through stitch and 1st loop, yarn over, pull through both loops.
sl st- slip stitch
RS- right side
WS- wrong side
Overall Pattern Notes:
• Starting chain does not count as a stitch unless stated otherwise within the pattern.
• Garment has approximately 2" of positive ease.
• This garment is worked in 2 long panels that are folded in half sewn together with sleeves and trim added at the end.
• Pattern is written in size XS with additional sizes in parentheses.
Panels (Make 2):
Panels should measure approximately 8" (9", 10", 11", 12", 13") wide. If you find your width is short, just add more rows until you get to the desired width.
Ch 208 (208, 208, 226, 226, 226)
Row 1: (RS) hhdc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across. (207, 207, 207, 225, 225, 225)
Row 2: ch 1, turn, 1 hhdc in each st across. (207, 207, 207, 225, 225, 225)
Rows 3-29 (33, 37, 39, 41, 45 or until desired width) Repeat row 2.
Fasten off. Weave in ends.
Sewing Panels Together:
Lay panels flat with the starting chains of each panel facing each other, and the WS facing you.
Fold Panels in half. (RS will now be facing you.) Line the bottom and sides up evenly.
Sew the back middle (starting chains) together from the very bottom to the very top, where the panels fold over. Sew the outer sides (last row worked) together leaving 6.5" (7", 7.5", 8", 8.5", 9") unsewn at the top to create the armholes. Fasten off. Weave in ends.
Now turn it over and sew the front middle together from the bottom leaving 10-12" total unsewn at the top or to desired length. This creates the top opening for your head. Fasten off. Weave in ends.
I like to block my panels at this point. You can also block at the end. This is optional.
Sleeves (work in each armhole):
Join yarn to WS of bottom of armhole (near where your armpit is). Sleeves will be straight all the way down, making the bottom near the wrist slightly oversized. You can work decreases within the rounds if you'd like a more fitted sleeve.
Round 1: Ch 1, work 50 (60, 60, 70, 70, 80) hhdc evenly around the side of armhole, join to 1st st. (50, 60, 60, 70, 70, 80)
Round 2: Ch 1, turn, 1 hhdc in each st around, join to 1st st. (50, 60, 60, 70, 70, 80)
Rounds 3-50: Repeat round 2.
Do not fasten off. Move on to Sleeve Trim.
Sl st into 1st st.
Ch 11
1. Sc in 2nd ch from hook and across. (10)
2. Sl st in next 2 sts of sleeve.
Sleeve Trim:
3. Ch 1, turn, sc in blo of each sc. (10)
4. Ch 1, turn, sc in blo of each st across. (10)
Repeat steps 2-4 all the way around body of sleeve. Join ends by working a sl st into each starting ch. Fasten off. Weave in ends.
Bottom Trim:
Join yarn to bottom backside of garment.
Ch 11
nn1. Sc in 2nd ch from hook and across. (10)
2. Sl st twice into bottom of garment.
3. Ch 1, turn, sc in blo of each sc. (10)
4. Ch 1, turn, sc in blo of each st across. (10)
Repeat steps 2-4 all the way around bottom of garment. Join ends by working a sl st into each starting ch. Fasten off. Weave in ends. Block if needed.
